<u>Answer</u>:

The area of the shape is 6 square units

<u>Step-by-step explanation:</u>

Let us divide the shape into a square and a triangle for easy understanding. refer the below figure

Step 1: finding the area of the square

The side of the square is 2

Hence the area if the square

=> 2 X 2

=> 4 square units

Step 2: finding the area of the triangle

The area of the triangle   =  \frac{1}{2} \times base \times height

substituting the values

The area of the triangle

=> \frac{1}{2} \times 2 \times 2

=> \frac{1}{2} \times 4

=> \frac{4}{2}

=> 2 square units

Step 3 : finding the area of the shape

The area of the shape  =  area of the square +  area of the triangle

=> 4 + 2

=> 6 square units

your recipe calls for 2 over 3 cups of sugar. you are only making 2 over 4 of the recipe. how much sugar do you need? not simpli
dalvyx [7]

The quantity of sugar required for 2/4 of the recipe is 1/3 cups

<h3>How to solve fraction?</h3>

let

  • x = quantity of sugar needed

Ratio of sugar to recipe

2/3 : 1 = x : 2/4

2/3 ÷ 1 = x ÷ 2/4

2/3 × 1/1 = x × 4/2

2/3 = x × 2

2/3 = 2x

x = 2/3 ÷ 2

x = 2/3 × 1/2

= 2/6

x = 1/3 cups

Therefore, the quantity of sugar required for 2/4 of the recipe is 1/3 cups

A pile of newspaper was 17 3/4 inches high. Each consecutive week for the next 5 weeks the height of pile increase by 8 7/12 inc
Murljashka [212]

Answer: the height in inches, of the pile after 3 weeks is 34 11/12 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

Each consecutive week for the next 5 weeks the height of pile increase by 8 7/12 inches. Converting 8 7/12 inches to improper fraction, it becomes 103/12 inches. The height is increasing in an arithmetic progression. The formula for determining the nth term of an arithmetic sequence is expressed as

Tn = a + (n - 1)d

Where

a represents the first term of the sequence.

d represents the common difference.

n represents the number of terms in the sequence.

From the information given,

a = 17 3/4= 71/4 inches

d = 103/12 inches

n = 3 weeks

the height in inches, of the pile after 3 weeks, T3. Therefore,

T3 = 71/4 + (3 - 1)103/12

T3 = 71/4 + 2 × 103/12 = 71/4 + 103/6

T3 = 419/12 inches = 34 11/12 inches
