The movie was very popular because of its very intense cult scenes. The movie contained violence and provocative sexual displays.

The movie tested the strict censorship boundaries of the day as well as audiences reactions to morality. It gave the producer,Hitchcock the biggest hit of his career. The 45-second shower murder in Psycho is possibly the most famous scene in cinema history.
