Define what is meant by the characterization "input-output signaling machines" as applied to neurons. Discuss the extent to whic
White raven [17]

Answer:

A neuron receives stimuli consisting of the response of  thousands of neurons. Synapse is the signals entering the neuron  via junctions called. The role of  the synapses are to modulate the signal strength and  determine the input signal is either excitatory,  promoting the neuron to fire, or inhibitory, tending to  prevent the neuron from firing. At the axon hillock the  neuron integrates the inputs and if this total is excitatory  then the neuron fires. Although this brief description  leaves out much of the complexity, it is still remarkable  that out of this web of electrochemical firing units,  emerges our very conscious.

Analogy of Cell wall
swat32

Answer:

In school, I was taught that it is like a bouncer who controls who enters and exits the club because the cell membrane controls what is able to permeate into the cell. It’s good, but I like to think of it as a door.

The hypothesis for Tonya's experiment is "If distance of a race increases, the amount of time needed to run the race will increa
WINSTONCH [101]

The dependent variable is what changes because of the independent variable, while the independent variable is what is purposefully changed by the experimenter, since it is the variable that is being tested.

So, in this problem, you are purposefully changing the distance of the race to see whether or not the amount of time taken to complete the race will change because of the varying distances.

This means that purposefully changing the distance of the race is the independent variable that is being tested and that the amount of time that the runner takes to complete the race is the dependent variable because it changes due to the independent variable.

Sorry for being so wordy.

In short,

Independent variable- the one that's being tested and that is purposefully changed.

Dependent variable- the one that changes because of the independent variable.

Hope this helps.
