There are three types of muscles namely; (1) cardiac muscles, (2) smooth muscles, and (3) skeletal muscles. Sarcomeres are the functional contractile unit of both cardiac and skeletal muscles; both of which are striated muscles. Smooth muscles, on the other hand, have no sarcomeres instead the contractile structures (actin and myosin) are dispersed within the cell body.
