Is it possible for an object with a constant speed to accelerating?

Yes. A roulette ball circulating in a spinning wheel, a car going around a curved
road at 30 mph, and a planet in a circular orbit are all being accelerated.

"Acceleration" does NOT mean "speeding up".  It means any change in the
speed or DIRECTION of motion.

To add on, acceleration is a vector which means it must contain direction and magnitude. So a ball could be traveling at a constant rate of 5m/s/s but then switch direction from, say West to East; this would mean that it does accelerate even though it does have constant speed.

A plane starting from rest accelerates to 40 m/s in 10 s. How far did the plane travel during this time?
andrew-mc [135]

Answer:

400 meters

Explanation:

using the equation:

  • speed = distance/time
  • it would look like this when plugged in: 40=d/10
  • d (distance) is the unknown variable, so you have to solve for that
  • multiply both sides by 10 since you want to separate d to solve its number.
  • 10d/10=40 × 10
  • the two tens on the d part of the equation would cancel out, leaving only d.
  • Therefore, d = 400

Hopefully this helps.

A large truck and a compct car are both driving down the
koban [17]

Answer:

Explanation:

The friction force acting on the body depends on the mass of the body, here the mas of truck is very large as compared  to the car, so the friction force acting on the truck is large then the car. So, the amount of heat generated by the truck is more than the car and the truck overheated more.

Mercury has an average disease to the sun of 0.39 AU. In two or more complete sentences, explain how to calculate the orbital pe
alukav5142 [94]

Answer: 88 Earth days

Explanation:

According to the Kepler Third  Law of Planetary motion <em>“The square of the orbital period of a planet is proportional to the cube of the semi-major axis (size) of its orbit”. </em>

<em />

In other words, this law states a relation between the orbital period T of a body (moon, planet, satellite) orbiting a greater body in space with the size a of its orbit:

T^{2}=a^{3} (1)

If we assume the orbit is circular and apply Newton's law of motion and the Universal Law of Gravity we have:

T^{2}=\frac{4\pi^{2}}{GM}a^{3} (2)

Where M is the mass of the massive object and G is the universal gravitation constant. If we assume M constant and larger enough to consider G  really small, we can write a general form of this law:

MT^{2}=a^{3} (3)

Where T is in units of Earth years,  a is in AU (<u>1 Astronomical Unit is the average distane between the Earth and the Sun)</u> and  M is the mass of the central object  in units of the mass of the Sun.

This means when we are making calculations with planets in our solar system  M=1.

Hnece, in the case of Mercury:

(1)T^{2}=(0.39 AU)^{3} (4)

Isolating T:

T=\sqrt{(0.39 AU)^{3}} (5)

T=0.243 Earth-years \frac{365 days}{1 Earth-year}=88.6 days \approx 88 days (6)

This means the period of Mercury is 88 days.

When viewed in yellow light, an object that reflects all the colors of light will appear_____.
Bas_tet [7]

Answer:

Yellow.

Explanation:

An object that reflects all the incidents colors of light will surely reflect off the color yellow, and when the reflected ray hits our eyes, we will perceive the object as yellow. The object that reflects off all colors appears to us as white. So if you want to make sure, then just shine yellow light on a white fabric and see what happens!

What you will observe of course is a yellow fabric. Similarly, if you shine red light onto the fabric, it will appear red, and so on for all colors.
