Answer:

x=\frac{10}{a+b} with a \neq -b.

Step-by-step explanation:

So we have:

ax+bx=10 and we are solving for x.

We want to get all terms that have x on one side and all terms without x on the opposing side.  This is actually already done.

Now we are going to factor the side that has the x's.  We are going to factor x out.

x(a+b)=10

Now you have a number times x and you want x by itself. The inverse operation of multiplication is division. So we are going to divide both sides by (a+b):

x=\frac{10}{a+b}

You could probably stop here but just in case....

a+b can't be 0 because then you would have 10/0 which is not a number.

So if we solve a+b=0 we can find out what we don't want and b to be:

a+b=0

Subtract b on both sides:

a=-b

So we we don't want a and -b to be the same value.

There were 60 ducks living in a pond. If the number living at the pond increased by 30%, how many ducks now live at the pond?
timama [110]

Answer:

78

Step-by-step explanation:

You take the original total: 60, and multiply it by 30 to get 1,800. You then divide 1,800 by 100 to get 18. 18 is your 30%. Now, you add the 30% to 60 getting your total number of ducks: 78.

The equation version:

\frac{a}{60} = \frac{30}{100}

It is just proportions.

Answer:

The probability of the stick's weight being 2.33 oz or greater is 0.0041 or 0.41%.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Weight of a given sample (x) = 2.33 oz

Mean weight (μ) = 1.75 oz

Standard deviation (σ) = 0.22 oz

The distribution is normal distribution.

So, first, we will find the z-score of the distribution using the formula:

z=\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}

Plug in the values and solve for 'z'. This gives,

z=\frac{2.33-1.75}{0.22}=2.64

So, the z-score of the distribution is 2.64.

Now, we need the probability P(x\geq 2.33 )=P(z\geq  2.64).

From the normal distribution table for z-score equal to 2.64, the value of the probability is 0.9959. This is the area to the left of the curve or less than z-score value.

But, we need area more than the z-score value. So, the area is:

P(z\geq  2.64)=1-0.9959=0.0041=0.41\%

Therefore, the probability of the stick's weight being 2.33 oz or greater is 0.0041 or 0.41%.
