Thomas Paine wrote common sense  to support the patriot cause. It was a best seller and  sold over that 100,000 copies in few months after its publication.

His writing style was so effective that an average reader could understand his argument. As many of the people of that time were still undecided about the revolution, common sense convinced them that the revolution and independence from the British rule was necessary for the colonies.

He was against monarchy and advocated natural rights theory. He proposed a system representative government for the American colonies.
