Which of the following statements does NOT accurately describe a difference between the innate and adaptive defenses of the body

? View Available Hint(s) Which of the following statements does NOT accurately describe a difference between the innate and adaptive defenses of the body? The innate defenses of the body apply strictly to external pathogens, while adaptive defenses apply strictly to internal pathogens. Innate defenses involve physical barriers, cells, bloodborne chemicals, and inflammatory responses, while adaptive defenses primarily utilize lymphocytes and antibodies. Innate defenses tend to occur much faster than adaptive defenses. Any foreign substances may activate the innate defenses, while adaptive defenses are specific to the type of invading pathogen.

The incorrect statement is option (A) the innate defenses of the body apply strictly to external pathogens, while adaptive defenses apply strictly to internal pathogens.

Immunity can be classified into two types namely, the innate immunity and the adaptive immunity. Innate immunity is the first line of defense against the pathogens. It includes the physical and chemical barriers of the immune system along with the action of the phagocytizing cells called the macrophages. Whereas, the adaptive immunity is mediated by the cells of the immune system called the lymphocytes. The B lymphocytes produce antibodies and are responsible for humoral immunity. The T lymphocytes produce the cell mediated immunity with the production of the helper T cell, cytotoxic T cells and attack the pathogens. Innate immune response is comparatively a faster immune response which can be activated by any foreign substance entering the body. Both the defenses work on external and internal pathogens.

nadezda [96]

Answer:

b. A transferase deficiency will result in an accumulation of the toxic metabolite galactosse 1-phosphate.

c. A galactokinase deficiency will cause an accumulation of galactose.

Explanation:

Transferase is an enzyme which is responsible for the breakdown of galactose which is a known milk sugar. Its deficiency causes the formation of toxic materials such as galactose-1-phosphate which comes from galactose, and galactitol. Galactokinase is also an enzyme which helps in the conversion of galactose into galactose 1-phosphate with the expenditure of ATP molecule, so its deficiency causes the deposition of galactose.
