Answer:

y=\frac{306}{7} is the answer.

In decimal y = 43.71

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

y varies directly with x .

Also x = 7 when y = 18

To Find:

y = ? when x = 17

Solution:

y varies directly with x .

i.e. y is directly proportional to x

∴ y = k\times x

Where

k = constant of proportionality {Remain Same}

First we will find constant of proportionality k,

∴ When x = 7 and y = 18 we have

∴ 18 = k\times 7\\\\k=\frac{18}{7}

Now when x= 17 and k=\frac{18}{7} we have

∴ y = k\times x

∴ y=\frac{18}{7}\times 17\\\\y=\frac{306}{7}\\\\ y=43.71

kvasek [131]
I'm assuming that since 87% failed, that would the remaining 13% was a success.  If that assumption is correct, than we simply have to take:

.13 * 13531 = 1759.03 products were successful.

Tim bought a washing machine for a total of $651 with tax included. What was the price of the washing machine before tax if Tim
Molodets [167]

Answer:

<em>The washing machine cost $600 before tax</em>

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Percentages </u>

The washing machine cost $651 including a tax of 8.5%.

If x was the cost of the washing machine before tax, then the tax was:

x*8.5/100 = 0.085x

It was added to the original price:

x + 0.085x = 1.085x

That is the final price, thus

1.085x=$651

Solving:

x = $651/1.085

x = $600

The washing machine cost $600 before tax
