Stress response and memory retention

Explanation:

During a stress response, many neurotransmitters or catecholamines like dopamine, adrenaline, noradrenaline, are released. The catecholamines are hormones which are released and acts as part of the body's fight-or-flight response.

Oversecretion of these catecholamines can hinder the long-term memory. However, these stress hormones do increase the short-term or the immediate recall memory. During an acute or an emotional stress response, the short-term, working, or the recognition memory becomes active.

The acute stress responses activates the sympathetic nervous system and areas of the brain like hippocampus and amygdala. These further improve the cognitive and sensory skills which improves the memory.

This also improves decision making skills to decide what is best during the fight-or-flight response.

Evidence that physiological arousal precedes emotion would be most consistent with the _______.
storchak [24]

Answer:

C: James-Lange Theory of Emotion; B: Cornea

Explanation:

The James-Lange theory of emotion is a theory proposed independently by two (2) psychologists "William James" and "Carl Lange" and it posits that "<em>emotion is equivalent to the range of physiological arousal caused by external events</em>." This means that for someone to experience emotion, he must first be aroused physically evident in ways such as increased respiration, heart-rate etc., and that their interpretation of such physiological excitement is what leads to emotion in people.

B. Cornea

The eye has 3 layers: The outer layer, the middle layer and inner layer. The outer layer is composed of the sclera, cornea and iris. The sclera is the white eye, the cornea is an opaque tissue, sits in front of the eye and it allows light to enter into the iris.

As teens move through adolescence, __________.
Degger [83]
As teens move through adolescence,

A.  Freedom increases, but so does responsibility.

This is because it is the only answer that makes sense.  When you become a teenager, your parents give you more freedom, but it is up to you to make sure that you control this new freedom in a responsible way.

The answer isn't B or D, because freedom increases as you grow older; it doesn't decrease as these answer choices suggest.

The answer isn't C, because as teens move through adolescence, their parent's expectations increase as they give them more freedom.

So, the answer is A.
