Explanation:

Groups 1A, 2A, and 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A, adn 8A are easy to figure out the valence electrons. The metals (groups 1A and 2A, 3A) all want to give their electrons away so they loose their electrons to get to the perfects state, the octet (having 8 valence electrons). Whereas, the non-metals (those elements in groups 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A, and 8A) are like gaining electrons in order to come to arrive at the octet state. Group 4A is a little bit harder (containing Carbon) because it can give up to 4 electrons and can loose up to 4 electrons. The rest of the periodic table (the transitional metals, your lanthanides and actinides) are much harder to figure out the valences of because many of them can have numerous charges. Those are generally given to you unless otherwise asked to be figured out.

Which statements best describe conduction? Check all that apply.
Gennadij [26K]

The statements that best describe conduction are

-Conduction can occur within a substance or between two substances.

-Fast-moving molecules collide with slow-moving molecules.

-Thermal energy is transferred from a warmer substance to a cooler substance.

Explanation :

-Conduction can occur within a substance or between two substances.

Conduction can occur within a substance, but the heat will transfer by conduction only when those parts of the substance are at different temperatures.

For example, when we hold a metal rod over a flame, the end which is in direct contact with the flame becomes hot first. As we continue to heat, the other end of the rod also becomes hot because heat gets transferred through the rod by conduction.

Similarly heat can also be transferred between 2 substances which are in direct contact with each other.

In the above example, when a person is holding the other end of the rod, their hand might burn. In this case heat is transferred between 2 objects ( rod & hand) which are in direct contact by conduction.

-Fast-moving molecules collide with slow-moving molecules.

When an object heated, the molecules gain thermal energy and start vibrating. These vibrating molecules transfer their kinetic energy to neighboring molecules which are at lower temperature and hence are slow moving. This transfer occurs till both of them attain the same temperature.

-Thermal energy is transferred from a warmer substance to a cooler substance.

Thermal energy is always transferred from a warmer substance to a cooler substance. In conduction mode, heat is transferred by transfer of kinetic energy from fast moving molecules to slow moving molecules.

The molar heat of fusion of platinum (Pt) is 4.700 kcal/mol. How much heat must be added to 85.5 g of
zvonat [6]

Answer:

2.07 Kcal heat must be added to completely melt the platinum.

Explanation:

Given data:

Molar heat of fusion =  4.700 Kcal / mol

Mass of platinum = 85.5 g

Heat of fusion = ?

Solution:

Formula:

ΔH = n × molar heat of fusion

n = number of moles

Now we will calculate the number of moles:

Number of moles = mass / molar mass

Number of moles = 85.5 g /195.08 g/mol

Number of moles = 0.44 mole

ΔH = n × molar heat of fusion

ΔH = 0.44 mol × 4.700 Kcal / mol

ΔH = 2.07 Kcal

Find the molarity of the following solution:
CaHeK987 [17]

Answer:

2.67 M

Explanation:

Molarity, which is the molar concentration of a substance, can be calculated using the formula;

M = n/V

Where;

M = molarity (M)

n = number of moles (mol)

V = volume (Litres)

Based on the provided information in this question, mass of lithium sulfate (Li2SO4) = 734g, volume = 2.5L

Using mole = mass/molar mass

Molar mass of Li2SO4 = 7(2) + 32 + 16(4)

= 14 + 32 + 64

= 110g/mol

Mole = 734/110

Mole (n) = 6.67moles

Molarity = n/V

Molarity = 6.67/2.5

Molarity = 2.668

Molarity of Li2SO4 in the solution is 2.67 M
