Awarding road contracts. A state Department of Transportation (DOT) recently claimed that each of five bidders received equal co

nsideration in the awarding of two road construction contracts and that, in fact, the two contract recipients were randomly selected from among the five bidders. Three of the bidders were large construction conglomerates and two were small specialty contractors. Suppose that both contracts were awarded to large construction conglomerates.
a. What is the probability of this event occurring if, in fact, the DOT's claim is true?
b.Is the probability computed in part an inconsistent with the DOT's claim that the selection was random?

Answer:

a) Hence, the probability of this event occurring if, in fact, the DOT's claim is true

= 3/10 = 0.3

Step-by-step explanation:

a) The concept applied here is combinatorics ; nCr = n!/(n - r)!r!

we are told that out of 5bidders, Three of the bidders were large construction conglomerates

and two were small specialty contractors.

selecting two recipients with tree of the bidders were large construction conglomerates 3C2

= 3!/(3-2)!2!

= 3

Similarly, selecting the two small casualty contractor from the total of 5bidders = 5C2

= 5!/(5-2)!2!

= 10

Hence, the probability of this event occurring if, in fact, the DOT's claim is true

= 3/10 = 0.3

b) if DOTs claim is not true ( probability of failure) = 1 - 0.3

= 0.7 , this value implies that the probability 0.3 is largely compatible and a compliment of the 0.7 and as such it is consistent with the DOTs claim that the selection was random.

The radius of a circle is 2.9 in. Find the circumference to the nearest tenth.
ELEN [110]

Answer:

\bf \large 20 \: inches

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that :

 • The radius of a circle is 2.9 in.

to find :

 • Find the circumference to the nearest tenth.

formulas used :

 • circumference = 2 × π × r

where,

 • π = 22/7
 • r = 2•9 inches

explanation :

⟼ c = 2πr

⟼ c = 2 × 22/7 × 2•9 inches

⟼ c = 2 × 3•14 × 2•9 inches

⟼ c = 6•28 × 2•9 inches

⟼ c = 18•21 inches.

Round to the nearest tenth :

⟼ c = 18•21 inches

⟼ c = 20 inches

∴ circle circumference is 20 inches .

PLEASE HELP!!

what is the explicit formula for this sequence -7, -4, -1, 2, 5
trasher [3.6K]

Answer:

The explicit formula for the given expression is a_n=-10+3n.

Step-by-step explanation:

The given sequence is

-7, -4, -1, 2, 5

The difference between two consecutive terms is same, therefore the given sequence is an arithmetic sequence.

The first term of the given AP is -7 and the common difference is

-4-(-7)=-4+7=3

The explicit formula for an AP is

a_n=a+(n-1)d

Where, a is first term, d is common difference and n is number of terms.

Substitute a=-7 and d=3 in the above equation.

a_n=-7+(n-1)3

a_n=-7+3n-3

a_n=-10+3n

Therefore the explicit formula for the given expression is a_n=-10+3n.
