Read the following paragraph about Calamity Claire’s sewing experience and complete the question that follows. Calamity Claire d

ecided she needed to shorten a skirt. Her mother carefully measured the new hem line for her. As Calamity jumped down from the chair, she ran into the cabinet drawer she had forgotten to close previously, when she got out straight pins. Ouch! When she finally sat down to the sewing machine to stitch the hem, she nearly stitched her fingers as well as the skirt. OOPS! Calamity carefully removed the pins from the material as she stitched so that the machine needle would not hit one and break. She stuck them in the lapel of her jacket so that none would fall on the floor. When she finished sewing, she carefully took the scissors from her lap and cut the end threads. As she got up to go press the hem, she tripped over the sewing machine cord. While pressing the new finished hem, she burned herself with the iron’s steam. Ouch! Calamity was relieved to have the project done and promptly unplugged the cord from the machine before pulling it from the outlet. She put her skirt on and rushed out the door, leaving the iron on. With a slight limp, burned hand, and straight pins still clinging to her jacket, Calamity Claire was quite proud of her accomplishment. Record the safety rules Calamity Claire forgot.

Answer:

A.) Entitled not only to be paid for additional time but also to be paid overtime if she works more than forty hours in a week.

Explanation:

The Fair Labor standards Act of 1938 is US labour law that deals with the right to minimum wage and overtime pay if people work for over 40 hours in a weeks. It also prohibits organisations from employing the minors . The law is applicable to the employees that are employed by enterprises active in commerce of production.

FLSA was written by senator Hugo Black in 1932 but his proposal could not met with resistance in  1937. A revised version of his proposal was passed in 1938  that accepted forty hour workweek and the labours could earn wages for overtime.  According to its provisions the workers would be paid minimum wage and the overtime pay should be one and a half times the regular pay.

Franklin D Roosevelt considered this act as one of the most important pieces of New Legislation.
