Wrong. The correct answer is A. is. It is A because you are not talking about sequoias, you are talking about bark. Bark is singular as well as the word is. To make it easier, generalize what you are trying to say by taking sequoias out of the sentence. You wouldn't say, "The bark are sometimes two feet thick", would you? Are remains a plural state of being while is, is singular.

Answer:

A) used her pregnancy as a defense

Explanation:

The paragraph says, "being found quick with child, she was respited for about seven months" so apparently she was on trial for something, and was found to be pregnant. She was given seven months, and after giving birth she was put back on trial.

I haven't read Fahrenheit 451 in a very long time, but I do remember this part. I think a possible reason as to why the author does this is to start creating conflict and introduce the real turning point of the story, when we find out what the real problem is. Hope this helped.

Explanation:

The above key detail gives important information about was going on in the Serengeti Park. Lions were in trouble as they battle with disease. Even the veterinarians didn't understand what was going on. They seem to be helpless. It became clear that what was happening wasn't ordinary but extraordinary.
