As a pendulum swings back and forth, its total energy is 16 J. What is its kinetic energy at 3/4 its maximum height?

Answer:

KE = 4 J

Explanation:

As we know that for swinging pendulum the total energy of the pendulum is always conserved

so here its total energy is

E = 16 J

now when the pendulum will reach to its maximum height then its total energy will convert into potential energy

so here at 3/4 of its maximum height the potential energy will also become 3/4 times of total energy

so it is given as

U = \frac{3}{4}(16) = 12 J

now by energy conservation we will have

K + U = 16 J

K + 12 = 16

K = 4 J

A penny is placed on a rotating turntable. where on the turntable does the penny require the largest centripetal force to remain
Mama L [17]

m = mass of the penny

r = distance of the penny from the center of the turntable or axis of rotation

w = angular speed of rotation of turntable

F = centripetal force experienced by the penny

centripetal force "F" experienced by the penny of "m" at distance "r" from axis of rotation is given as

F = m r w²

in the above equation , mass of penny "m"  and angular speed "w" of the turntable is same at all places. hence the centripetal force directly depends on the radius .

hence greater the distance from center , greater will be the centripetal force to remain in place.

So at the edge of the turntable , the penny experiences largest centripetal force to remain in place.

Greeley [361]

Answer:

C. It is negative

Explanation:

Per Newton's second law, the net force is the mass times the acceleration:

∑F = ma

If the acceleration is negative, the net force is negative.
