first note that x=-7 is not allowed in the soltions set
multiply both sides by x+7
make a sign chart and input values and see what they are

ok so we know we have zeroes at x=-9 and x=11
and x=-7 is not allowed so

see attachment

at x=-10,, we get a negative sign so it is less than 0
at x=-8, we get a positive sing, so it is more than 0
at x=-3, we get a negative sign, so less than 0
at x=20, we get a positive sign,so greater

so then

we do from negative inity to -9
and not between -9 and -7
between -7 and 11
so then

(-infinity,-9)U(-7,11]

The given function has a domain of {-4, -2, 0, 2, 4} Find the function's range.
yarga [219]

Answer:

The range of the function will be: {-9, -5, -1, 3, 7}

Step-by-step explanation:

  • We also know that the range of a function is the set of values of the dependent variable for which a function is defined.

Given the function

f(x) = 2x - 1

Given that the domain of the function is:

{-4, -2, 0, 2, 4}

Putting x=-4

f(x) = 2x - 1

f(-4)= 2(-4)-1=-8-1=-9

Thus,

at x=-4, y = -9

Putting x=-2

f(x) = 2x - 1

f(-2)= 2(-2)-1=-4-1=-5

Thus,

at x=-2, y = -5

Putting x=0

f(x) = 2x - 1

f(0)= 2(0)-1=0-1=-1

Thus,

at x=-2, y = -1

Putting x=2

f(x) = 2x - 1

f(2)= 2(2)-1=4-1=3

Thus,

at x=-2, y = 3

Putting x=4

f(x) = 2x - 1

f(4)= 2(4)-1=8-1=7

Thus,

at x=-2, y = 7

We also know that the range of a function is the set of values of the dependent variable for which a function is defined.

Thus, the range of the function will have all the y values correspond to all the x values for which the function is defined.

Thus, the range of the function will be: {-9, -5, -1, 3, 7}
