A sample of 12 radon detectors of a certain type was selected, and each was exposed to 100 pCI/L of radon. The resulting reading

s were as follows: 105.6, 90.9, 91.2, 96.9, 96.5, 91.3, 100.1, 105.0, 99.6, 107.7, 103.3, 92.4 Does this data suggest that the population mean reading under these conditions differs from 100? Set up an appropriate hypothesis test to answer this question.

Answer:

Null hypothesis:\mu = 100

Alternative hypothesis:\mu \neq 100

t=\frac{98.375-100}{\frac{6.109}{\sqrt{12}}}=-0.921

p_v =2*P(t_{11}

Step-by-step explanation:

1) Data given and notation

Data: 105.6, 90.9, 91.2, 96.9, 96.5, 91.3, 100.1, 105.0, 99.6, 107.7, 103.3, 92.4

We can calculate the sample mean and deviation for this data with the following formulas:

\bar X =\frac{\sum_{i=1}^n X_i}{n}

s=\sqrt{\frac{\sum_{i=1}^n (X_i- \bar X)^2}{n-1}}

The results obtained are:

\bar X=98.375 represent the sample mean

s=0.6.109 represent the sample standard deviation

n=12 sample size

\mu_o =100 represent the value that we want to test

\alpha represent the significance level for the hypothesis test.

z would represent the statistic (variable of interest)

p_v represent the p value for the test (variable of interest)

2) State the null and alternative hypotheses.

We need to conduct a hypothesis in order to check if the mean is equal to 100pCL/L, the system of hypothesis are :

Null hypothesis:\mu = 100

Alternative hypothesis:\mu \neq 100

Since we don't know the population deviation, is better apply a t test to compare the actual mean to the reference value, and the statistic is given by:

t=\frac{\bar X-\mu_o}{\frac{s}{\sqrt{n}}} (1)

t-test: "Is used to compare group means. Is one of the most common tests and is used to determine if the mean is (higher, less or not equal) to an specified value".

3) Calculate the statistic

We can replace in formula (1) the info given like this:

t=\frac{98.375-100}{\frac{6.109}{\sqrt{12}}}=-0.921

4) P-value

First we need to find the degrees of freedom for the statistic given by:

df=n-1=12-1=11

Since is a two sided test the p value would given by:

p_v =2*P(t_{11}

5) Conclusion

If we compare the p value and the significance level assumed \alpha=0.05 we see that p_v>\alpha so we can conclude that we have enough evidence to FAIL to reject the null hypothesis, so we can conclude that the true mean is not significant different from 100 at 5% of significance.

What is the equation of a quadratic graph with a focus of (-4,17/8) and a detric of y=15/8 answer
Nonamiya [84]

keeping in mind that the vertex is between the focus point and the directrix, in this cases we have the focus point above the directrix, meaning is a vertical parabola opening upwards, Check the picture below, which means the "x" is the squared variable.

now, the vertical distance from the focus point to the directrix is \bf \cfrac{17}{8}-\cfrac{15}{8}\implies \cfrac{2}{8} , which means the distance "p" is half that or 1/8, and is positive since it's opening upwards.

since the vertex is 1/8 above the directrix, that puts the vertex at \bf \cfrac{15}{8}+\stackrel{p}{\cfrac{1}{8}}\implies \cfrac{16}{8}\implies 2 , meaning the y-coordinate for the vertex is 2.

\bf \textit{vertical parabola vertex form with focus point distance} \\\\ 4p(y- k)=(x- h)^2 \qquad \begin{cases} \stackrel{vertex}{(h,k)}\qquad \stackrel{focus~point}{(h,k+p)}\qquad \stackrel{directrix}{y=k-p}\\\\ p=\textit{distance from vertex to }\\ \qquad \textit{ focus or directrix}\\\\ \stackrel{"p"~is~negative}{op ens~\cap}\qquad \stackrel{"p"~is~positive}{op ens~\cup} \end{cases} \\\\[-0.35em] ~\dotfill

\bf \begin{cases} h=-4\\ k=2\\ p=\frac{1}{8} \end{cases}\implies 4\left(\frac{1}{8} \right)(y-2)=[x-(-4)]^2\implies \cfrac{1}{2}(y-2)=(x+4)^2 \\\\\\ y-2=2(x+4)^2\implies \blacktriangleright y = 2(x+4)^2+2 \blacktriangleleft

Sunflower growth 1 week it grew 2 and va half inches in two weeks it grew 2 and 3 fourth in 3 weeks it grew 3 and one fourth how
Liula [17]

Answer:

The Growth of sunflower duing 3 weeks is 8.5 inches or 8 (1/2).

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Growth of sunflower each week .

To find :

Total growth during 3 weeks?

Solution:

According to given data:

Growth is

  1. 1st week=2 and 1/2 inches=5/2=2.5 inches .
  2. 2nd week =2 and 3/4 inches=11/4 inches.
  3. 3rd week=3 and 1/4 inches=13/4  inches.

Total growth is given by,

=growth of (1st week +2 week+ 3 week)

=5/2+11/4+13/4

=34/4

=17/2

=8 and 1/2 inches.

Hence the overall growth is about 17/2 or 8.5 inches in 3 weeks .
