Singly ionized (one electron removed) atoms are accelerated and then passed through a velocity selector consisting of perpendicu

lar electric and magnetic fields. The electric field is 154 V/m and the magnetic field is 3.18×10-2 T. The ions next enter a uniform magnetic field of magnitude 1.75×10-2 T that is oriented perpendicular to their velocity.
a)How fast are the ions moving when they emerge from the velocity selector?
v=____________m/s

b)If the radius of the path of the ions in the second magnetic field is 17.5 cm, what is their mass?
m=__________kg

Answer:

a. v  = 4748.42 m/s

b. mass = 10.32 * 10⁻²⁶kg

Explanation:

Electric field, E = 151 V/m

Magnetic field , B =3.18×10⁻²T

(a)

When the ion emerges from the velocity selector, its velocity is :

             v = E / B................(1)

                = (151 V/m) / (3.18×10 ⁻² T)

          velocity, v  = 4748.42 m/s

(b)

Magnetic field B =1.75×10⁻² T

radius of the path of the ions r = 17.5 cm = 0.175 m

magnetic force, F = Bvq   ................... (1)

Applying Newton's second law of motion ,

     Force F = ma

here , centripetal acceleration a = v2/r

     force F = mv2/r   ................ (2)

comparing equations (1) & (2) , we have,

        Bvq = mv2/r

        Bq = mv/r

mass, m = Bqr/v

            = (1.75×10⁻² T)(1.6*10⁻¹⁹ C)(0.175 m) /(4748.42 m/s)

       mass = 10.32 * 10⁻²⁶kg

the friction of water on a boat produces an acceleration of -10m/s^2. if the boat is traveling at 30 m/s and the motor shut off,
tatuchka [14]

Answer:

The boat takes 2.5 seconds to slow down to 5 m/s

Explanation:

Motion With Constant Acceleration

It's a type of motion in which the velocity of an object changes uniformly in time. The equation that rules the change of velocities is:

v_f=v_o+at\qquad\qquad [1]

Where:

a   = acceleration

vo = initial speed

vf  = final speed

t    = time

Using the equation [1] we can solve for a:

\displaystyle a=\frac{v_f-v_o}{t}

The acceleration produced by the friction of water is a=-10 \ m/s^2 and the boat is initially traveling at v0=30 m/s. When the motor is shut off, the boat will start braking until it stops. We need to find the time it takes to ready the final speed of vf=5 m/s.

Let's solve the above equation for t:

\displaystyle t=\frac{v_f-v_o}{a}

\displaystyle t=\frac{5-30}{-10}

\displaystyle t=\frac{-25}{-10}

t = 2.5 s

The boat takes 2.5 seconds to slow down to 5 m/s

You walk with a velocity of 2 m/s north. You see a man approaching you, and from your frame of
solong [7]

Answer:

The velocity of the man from the frame of reference of a stationary observer is, V₂ = 5 m/s

Explanation:

Given,

Your velocity, V₁ = 2 m/

The velocity of the person, V₂ =?

The velocity of the person relative to you, V₂₁ = 3 m/s

According to the relative velocity of two

                                V₂₁ = V₂ -V₁

∴                               V₂ =  V₂₁ + V₁

On substitution

                                 V₂ = 3 + 2

                                      = 5 m/s

Hence, the velocity of the man from the frame of reference of a stationary observe is, V₂ = 5 m/s

It is difficult to observe 1-nanometer, 1 millimeter, and 100 meter radiation with ground-based telescopes. What are the reasons
Paul [167]

Explanation:

1 nano-meter radiations are very difficult to observe from the ground based telescope because most of this range of radiation is absorbed through ozone layer. A very small amount of this range escape out of the ozone layer. This remaining few radiations are very difficult to track from the ground base telescope.

1 millimeter range of radiation comprises of infrared. It has range from 710 nano-meter to 1 millimeter. Infrared radiation can be easily absorbed from water and carbon di oxide molecules present in the atmosphere. So, it is absorbed by water and carbon di oxide molecules in the atmosphere. Thus, it is difficult to observe from the ground based telescope.

100 meter radiations are are radio-waves. The charged particle present in the uppermost layer of atmosphere absorbs these radio waves. So, these waves are absorbed by charged particle in the upper atmosphere. Thus, it is difficult to observe from the ground based telescope.
