The PEMDAS Rule (Parenthesis, Exponent, Multiplication or Division, Addition or Subtraction) states that when doing mathematical operations, the factor inside the in the Parenthesis must be solved first followed by the exponent and then multiplication or division (depending on which is first), addition or subtraction (depending on which is first).

So in this case we can see that there is no parenthesis and exponent. So we do the multiplication first, so the expression becomes:

8 – 3 + 5

Then followed by the subtraction:

5 + 5

Then finally addition:
