Answer: 1. 2y+x=5, 5x-y=3 or y-5x=3 and 2. y=x-3 or y=3-x, y=1/3(x+9)

Step-by-step explanation:

In first question, x represent the smaller number and y represent the larger number.

And, Twice a number added to a smaller number is 5.

That is, 2×larger number + smaller number = 5

⇒2y+x=5,

Moreover, The difference of 5 times the smaller number and the larger number is 3.

that is, 5× smaller - larger = 3 or larger - 5× smaller = 3

⇒ 5x - y =3 or y - 5x =3

In second question,

y represents the smaller number and x represents larger number.

And, A number, y, is equal to the difference of a larger number and 3.

That is, y= x -3 or y= 3- x

Moreover, The same number is one-third of the sum of the larger number and 9.

⇒ y = 1/3(x+9)

"Use the following information to answer the question. The mean age of lead actresses from the top ten grossing movies of 2010 w
julia-pushkina [17]

Answer:

a) 10.6; 48.7; within

Step-by-step explanation:

The Empirical Rule states that, for a normally distributed random variable:

68% of the measures are within 1 standard deviation of the mean.

95% of the measures are within 2 standard deviation of the mean.

99.7% of the measures are within 3 standard deviations of the mean.

In this problem, we have that:

Mean = 29.6

Standard deviation = 6.35

"According to the Empirical Rule, the ages of nearly all lead actresses will be between______________and_____________ years.

Nearly all(99.7%) will be within 3 standard deviations from the mean.

So from 29.6 - 3*6.35 = 10.6 years to 29.6 + 3*6.35 = 48.7 years.

Anna was 11-years old, so she was within this range.

So the correct answer is

a) 10.6; 48.7; within
