A hypothetical AX type of ceramic material is known to have a density of 3.55 g/cm3 and a unit cell of cubic symmetry with a cel

l edge length of 0.39 nm. The atomic weights of the A and X elements are 90.5 and 37.3 g/mol, respectively. On the basis of this information, which one of the following crystal structures is possible for this material?a) fluoriteb) zinc blendc) cesium chloride

Explanation:

For AX type ceramic material, the number of formula per unit cells is as follows.

         \rho = \frac{n'(A_{c} + A_{A})}{V_{C}N_{A}}

or,     n' = \frac{\rho a^{3}N_{A}}{(A_{c} + A_{A})}

where,   n' = no. of formula units per cell

           A_{c} = molecular weight of cation = 90.5 g/mol

           A_{a} = molecular weight of anion = 37.3 g/mol

          V_{c} = volume of cubic cell = 3.55 g/cm^{3}

           a = edge length of unit cell = 3.9 \times 10^{-8} cm

        N_{A} = Avogadro's number = 6.023 \times 10^{23}

          \rho = density = 3.55 g/cm^{3}

Now, putting the given values into the above formula as follows.

           n' = \frac{\rho a^{3}N_{A}}{(A_{c} + A_{A})}

                      = \frac{3.55 g/cm^{3} \times (3.9 \times 10^{-8})^{3} \times 6.023 \times 10^{23}}{(90.5 + 37.3)}

                     = 0.9

                    = 1 (approx)

Therefore, we can conclude that out of the given options crystal structure of cesium chloride is possible for this material.

How many kilojoules are released when 8.2 g of water condenses at 100 °c and cools to 15 °c?
MrRa [10]

Answer:- 2.92 kJ of heat is released.

Solution:- We have water at 100 degree C and it's going to be cool to 15 degree C.

So, change in temperature, \Delta T = 15 - 100 = -85 degree C

mass of water, m = 8.2 g

specific heat of water, c = 4.184\frac{J}{^0C.g}

The equation used for solving this type of problems is:

q=mc\Delta T

Let's plug in the values in the equation and solve it for q which is the heat energy:

q = (8.2)(4.184)(-85)

q = -2916.248 J

They want answer in kJ. So, let's convert J to kJ and for this we divide by 1000.

q=-2916.248J(\frac{1kJ}{1000J})

q = -2.92 kJ

Negative sign indicates the heat is released. So, in the above process of coiling of water, 2.92 kJ of heat is released.

What happens when the temperature changes from cold to hot in most substances
amm1812

Answer:

<h2>When heat is added to a substance, the molecules and atoms vibrate faster. As atoms vibrate faster, the space between atoms increases. The motion and spacing of the particles determines the state of matter of the substance. ... Solids, liquids and gases all expand when heat is added.☺</h2>
