The two houses of Congress are the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The Senate is sometimes called the upper chamber and the House the lower chamber. The Congress meets in Washington D.C. Both senators and representatives are chosen through direct election. Congress has 535 voting members: 435 representatives and 100 senators.
The members of the House of Representatives serve two-year terms representing the people of a single constituency known as district. Each state has two senators and they serve a six-year term.
To be eligible for election, a candidate must be at least 25 years of age ( House ) or 30 ( Senate ), have been a citizen of the USA for at least seven ( House ) or nine ( Senate ) years, and be an inhabitant of the state which they represent.
