In the 1920s, bacteriologist Fred Griffith demonstrated that a heat-killed, infectious pneumococcus produced a substance that co

uld convert a harmless form of the bacterium into a lethal one. Fifteen years later, researchers prepared an extract from the disease-causing S-strain pneumococci and showed that this material could transform the harmless R-strain cells into the infectious S-strain form. This change to the bacteria was both permanent and heritable, suggesting that this "transforming principle" represents the elusive genetic material of the cells. But what kind of molecule was it?The researchers subjected their extract to a variety of tests to determine the chemical identity of the "transforming principle." In one experiment, they treated the material with enzymes that destroy all proteins. This treatment did not affect the ability of the extract to transform harmless bacteria into an infectious form. From this result, the researchers can conclude that:

Answer:

Some substance in the infectious S strain could change the harmless R strain into the more lethal form.

Explanation:

These first type of experiments where crucial to advance in DNA knowledge.

In one experiment, they treated the material with enzymes that destroy all proteins. This is important because scientist notice that there was something else that was causing the strain to change into a lethal form and was heritable (DNA). Know a days we know that plasmids are responsible for such transformation.

Why are some of Carl Linnaeus’s classifications of organisms incorrect? Linnaeus did not study the anatomy of organisms. Linnaeu
Ede4ka [16]

Answer:

Linnaeus primarily used physical characteristics.

Explanation:

Convergent evolution explains that non-related species can develop similar traits due to adaptations that happened while living in similar ecosystems. For example sharks which are a type of fish have similar body plans to dolphins, a type of mammal.

New question: Indicate the location of DNA in eukaryotic cells.
Norma-Jean [14]
Explanation:

Most of the DNA is found in the cell nucleus but a small amount of DNA can also be found in the mitochondria and it is called mitochondrial DNA. Mitochondrial DNA, unlike nuclear DNA, is inherited from the mother, while nuclear DNA is inherited from both parents.

The nuclear DNA is found within a compartmentalized area within the cell called the nucleus. Each DNA molecule must be packed very tightly and precisely. This super-packaged form of DNA is called a chromosome.

we can conclude that the correct answer is:

Answer:The location of DNA in eukaryotic cells is:Cell nucleus as nuclear DNA.Mitochondria as mitochondrial DNA.

Why can't dna, rna, and proteins be used to compare only dead organisms?
mart [117]

I am not too sure, but I believe it is because DNA is actually apart of living organisms along with Protein. So it can't only be compared with dead organisms but they can be living.

Hope this helps!
