Alfred Wegener was the person who first introduced the concept of continental drift. It is this concept that helped in determining the past events that have occurred in the geological time scale.
With various shreds of evidence, Alfred Wegener concluded that the earth was initially comprised of a large supercontinent that got split up due to the drifting of the continents, which was later mentioned by the plate tectonic theory.
The Pangaea was first formed about 350 million years back and got separated into Laurasia and Gondwanaland about 180 million years back.
