Recall your d = rt, distance = rate * time

one car is going at 55kph, at say hmmm "t" time
the second car zooms by at 75kph, an hour later, thus " t + 1 "

notice, overtaking the 1st car, simply means, the second car comes from behind approaches the first car from behind and "gets there", at that very second, both cars have travelled a distance, say "d"

if the first car travelled "d" kilometers
for the second car to "get there" has to had travelled "d" distance as well

\bf \begin{array}{lccclll}
&distance&rate&time\\
&-----&-----&-----\\
\textit{first car}&d&55&t\\
\textit{second car}&d&75&t+1
\end{array}
\\\\\\
\begin{cases}
d=55t\\
d=75(t+1)\\
-------\\
55t=75(t+1)
\end{cases}

solve for "t"

Let t equal time. Then:
55t+55=75t
20t=55
t=55/20=2.75 hours before the second car catches the first. ☺☺☺☺

The graph shows the function<br><img src="https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%20y%20%3D%20%7Bq%7D%5E%7Bx%7D%20" id="TexFormula1" title=" y
Alex777 [14]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Graph in the picture represents,

y = qˣ

a). Point of intersection of the curve with the y-axis → (0, 1)

b). Since, this graph passes through (1, 4)

    By substituting values in the equation,

    4 = q¹

    q = 4

c). Value of y when x = 10,

   y=4^{10}

   y = 1048576

Jessica rides the bus 8 and 4/5 miles each day what is the total number of miles she rides in 21 days?
Masja [62]

Answer:

= 184/5

Step-by-step explanation:

converting mixed numbers to fractions, our initial equation becomes,

44/5 × 2/11

Applying the fractions formula for multiplication you get,

= 924/5

Simplifying 924/5, the answer is

=184 4/5

Find the equation of the line passing through the points (15,-25) and (-12,11). Write your answer in the form of y=mx+b
schepotkina [342]
(15,-25)(-12,11)
slope = (11 - (-25) / (-12 - 15) = - 36 / 27 which reduces to - 4/3

y = mx + b
slope(m) = -4/3
use either of ur points (15,-25)...x = 15 and y = -25
now we sub and find b, the y int
-25 = -4/3(15) + b
-25 = - 20 + b
-25 + 20 = b
-5 = b

so ur equation is : y = -4/3x - 5 <==

The value of x varies directly with the value of y, and when x=20, y=18. What is the value of “k”, the constant of proportionali
stealth61 [152]

Answer:

In this case, y=30 and x=6, so 30=k*5<=> k=30/6=5.

Step-by-step explanation:

The constant of proportionality is the ratio between two directly proportional quantities. Two quantities are directly proportional when they increase and decrease at the same rate. The constant of proportionality k is given by k=y/x where y and x are two quantities that are directly proportional to each other.
