Suppose Alia recently learned that she inherited a mutant BRCA1 allele from her mother, who had breast cancer. BRCA1 is a tumor

suppressor gene that is related to breast cancer. Why would Alia be at higher risk for getting breast cancer at an earlier age than her sister, Francine, who inherited a normal BRCA1 allele from their mother?

Answer:

Due to the inheritance of a mutant tumor suppressor gene that will inhibit the regulation of cell proliferation and tumor development.

Explanation:

The normal BRCA1 allele is a tumor suppressor gene, that regulates cell division, DNA repair and apoptosis. Alia would be at a higher risk for getting breast cancer because she has inherited the mutant allele. When the normal tumor suppressor gene becomes mutated, the rate at which the cell proliferates will become uncontrollable, DNA repair will be unmanageable and apoptosis will be unachievable due to uncontrollable rate. Thus Alia inheriting this gene will predispose her to getting breast cancer at an earlier age if triggered coupled with some other factors.

Yuki888 [10]

Answer: Lymphatic tissues

Explanation: Lymphatic tissues have various distinct configurational groups correlated to its specific purpose in the resistance of a particular infection reaction. Lymphatic tissues can be primary or secondary in basic features, the primary lymphatic tissues in humans being thymus and bone marrow. However, the lymphocytes are shaped from a long thin corroborative section of cells in the soft fatty material in the compartments of bones in which cells are generated and then distributed in the lymphatic tissue.

In sexually reproducing multicellular organisms, the main functions of mitosis are _____. Check all that apply.
nasty-shy [4]

Answer:

b)repair/replacement of damaged cells growth and development

Explanation:

Mitosis is a process of cell division that has many purposes. In individuals of sexual reproduction such as humans, mitosis is responsible for multiplying cells during the embryonic development; through this process the zygote (unicellular) is transformed into a multicellular organism. Additionally, mitosis allows the formation of new cells for tissue growth and to replace worn out cells.

The cell division that allows the gamete production for reproduction is a different process called meiosis.

The wood in a match is made of cellulose, a polymer of glucose molecules. when you light the match heat and light are given off,
slavikrds [6]

The wood in a matchstick is made of cellulose, a polymer of glucose molecules. When you light the matchstick, heat and light are given off, indicating that an exothermic reaction is occurring.

There are two types of reactions:

1. Exothermic reactions: In these reactions, the reactants combine to form product and heat is liberated. Example, burning of fuel.

2.Endothermic reactions: In these reactions, the reactants combine to form product and heat gets absorbed from the surroundings. Example, photosynthesis in plants where the energy of the Sun gets absorbed.
