Answer:

The topic of atmospheric pollution and the damage that pollutant gases produce on our atmosphere has been a raging one for decades now.

Pollutant gases, like sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide, which are released into our air from various sources due to the use of fossil fuels, are part of the reason why today we can talk about acid rain. Acid rain is an unnatural event in which the acidity present in the water that comes down from clouds due to the mixture of water vapor with nitrogen oxide and sulfure oxide, is much higher than normal. And the damages to our planet are very extensive.

As such, the answers to your questions would be:

1. A car´s catalytic converter removes nitrogen oxide pollution and is most efficient at room temperature: True. This is because catalytic converters have an optimum operating temperature, and when a car´s engine has just been started, or has been exposed to cold, the converter will take some time to become fully operational.

2. The largest source of sulfur oxide pollution is burning coal for power plants: True. This, unfortunately, is still true in today´s world. Power plants still largely use fossil fuels, and most importantly coal, as their power source, and coal, when burned, produces abundant amounts of sulfur oxide.

3. Most nitrogen oxides formed during combustion come from nitrogen in the fuel: True. According to the EPA, even with the work done to resolve this, combustion of gasoline, rich in nitrogenous elements, produce release of nitrogen oxides.

What is the basic formula for monosaccharides and how is the shape determined?
Andrews [41]

Answer:

Monosaccharides are simple sugars with a basic formula Cⁿ (H2O)ⁿ. They are classified according to the number of carbon atoms they contain: tetroses (4), pentoses (5) and hexoses (6). There are also mosaccharides with 3 carbon atoms, for example the Dihydroxyacetone.

Explanation:

Monosaccharides have to be aldehydes (-CHO) or ketones (-COO) with more than one alcohol function, which will be located in different carbons.

Beyond their role in energy transfer, what other benefit do microorganisms that act as producers provide for ecosystems?
insens350 [35]

Answer:

The microorganisms present metabolic wastes that serve as the primary source of food for other living things.

Bacteria that live free in the soil or in symbiosis with plants are essential to fix nitrogen, both nitrates and ammonia. These bacteria take nitrogen directly from the air, originating compounds that can be incorporated into the composition of the soil or living beings.

This property is restricted only to prokaryotes and is widely distributed among different groups of bacteria and some archaeobacteria. It is a process that consumes a lot of energy that occurs with the mediation of the enzyme nitrogenase, which the rest of the living organisms that cannot do or comply with this process is because they lack said enzyme.

Dunaliella is a genus of microscopic algae of the Chlorophyceae class and of the order Volvocales. All are unicellular, although with very varied morphologies.

Morphologically, its main characteristic is that they lack a rigid polysaccharide cell wall.

The ecology of this genus of green algae is characterized by its high tolerance to salinity, with eukaryotic organisms having greater tolerance to salt. They are euryhaline, adapted to salt concentrations from 50 mM NaCl to almost 5.5 M NaCl.

Explanation:

By nitrogen fixation is meant the combination of molecular nitrogen or dinitrogen with oxygen or hydrogen to give oxides or ammonia that can be incorporated into the biosphere. Molecular nitrogen, which is the majority component of the atmosphere, is inert and not directly usable by most living things. Nitrogen fixation can occur abiotic (without the intervention of living beings) or by the action of microorganisms (biological nitrogen fixation). Fixation in general involves the incorporation into the biosphere of a significant amount of nitrogen, which globally can reach about 250 million tons per year, of which 150 correspond to biological fixation.
