Answer: The speed of the freight train = 40 miles per hour

And the speed of the passenger train =3(40)=120 miles per hour

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the speed of the freight train be x miles per hour.

Then the speed of the passenger train is 3x miles per hour.

Time taken from 3PM to 6 PM= 3 hours

Since, \text{Distance=Speed}\times\text{time}

Now, The distance traveled by freight train=x\times3=3x

The distance traveled by passenger train=3x\times3=9x

Also,  At 6PM they are 240 miles apart.

\\\Rightarrow\ 9x-3x=240\\\Rightarrow\ 6x=240\\\Rightarrow\ x=\frac{240}{60}\\\Rightarrow\ x=40

Thus, the speed of the freight train = 40 miles per hour

And the speed of the passenger train =3(40)=120 miles per hour

Veseljchak [2.6K]

Answer:

-88x + 10y

Step-by-step explanation:

-5x+3y= -93x+7y=23

we cannot do anything to numbers with unlike signs so we will do this

23=-5x+3y=-93x+7y

now we will take the numbers with like signs to one place like this

23=-5x+93x+3y+7y

now we can solve this

- x + = -

+ x+=+

-x-=-

23= 88x+10y ANSWER

If five cards are dealt from a standard deck of cards, how many different ways can three diamonds and two non-diamonds be dealt
charle [14.2K]
In a standard deck of cards, there are 13 diamond cards and 39 non diamonds. To choose 3 diamonds from 13 cards would be equivalent to 13*12*11 as there are less cards to choose from each time you remove a card. To choose two non diamonds from the other non diamonds cards would be equivalent to 39*38, taking into account the number of cards you remove each time you pick out one card. Hence the total number of ways is 13x12x11x39x38.
