Extinction, in Psychology, refers to the gradual weakening of a conditioned response that results in the decrease or disappearance of behavior. In other words, the conditioned behavior eventually stops.

Conditioned taste aversions can also be affected by extinction. Imagine you had some milk before you got sick. As a result, you have developed an aversion to the taste of milk and avoid eating it, even though it used to be one of your favorite foods. One way to overcome this reluctance would be to expose yourself to milk, even if just the thought of drinking milk makes you feel a little sick. You can start by taking just a few sips over and over again. As you continue to eat your food without getting sick, your aversion to taste will eventually subside.
