Rank these elements according to first ionization energy. Na, Li, Rb, K

Chemistry

Explanation:

Ionization energy is defined as the energy required to remove most loosely bound electron from a gaseous atom or ion.

When we move down a group then there occurs a decrease in ionization energy. This is because size of atom increases down the group and valence shell is away from the nucleus of the atom.

Due to this there will be less force of attraction between the nucleus and valence electrons. As a result, it becomes easier to remove the valence electron.

For example, Na, Li, Rb and K are all group 1 elements.

Rb being the largest in size will have low ionization energy whereas Li being the smallest will have highest ionization energy.

Therefore, given elements are arranged from highest to least ionization energy as follows.

                                 Li > Na > K > Rb

Ranking these elements from the least to the greatest ionization energy is Rb, K, Na, Li. Ionization energy is defined as the amount of energy required to remove the most loosely bound electron, the valence electron, of an isolated atom to form a cation.

The oxygen atom is smaller than the sulfur atom because _____(1) the outer electrons of oxygen are more effectively screened fro
Romashka [77]

Answer: Option (2) is the correct answer.

Explanation:

Atomic number of oxygen atom is 8 and its electronic distribution is 2, 6. So, it contains only 2 orbitals which are closer to the nucleus of the atom.

As a result, the valence electrons are pulled closer by the nucleus of oxygen atom due to which there occurs a decrease in atomic size of the atom.

Whereas atomic number of sulfur is 16 and its electronic distribution is 2, 8, 6. As there are more number of orbitals present in a sulfur atom so, the valence electrons are away from the nucleus of the atom.

Hence, there is less force of attraction between nucleus of sulfur atom and its valence electrons due to which size of sulfur atom is larger than the size of oxygen atom.

Thus, we can conclude that the oxygen atom is smaller than the sulfur atom because the outer orbitals of oxygen are located closer to the nucleus than those of sulfur.

Which equation is used to help form the combined gas law?<br> eP, V, P, V, т.
alexdok [17]

Answer:

The combined gas law is formulated from PV/T =K.

Explanation:

The combined gas law comprises of Boyle's law, Charles's law and Gay lusaac's law. This laws were not discovered but simply put together considering other cases of ideal gas law. It states that if the amount of gas is left unchanged, the ratio between the pressure, volume, and temperature is constant.
