11-29. Rosilaine is ordering wood chips to cover her dog run area. The size of the dog run is 9.5 feet by 12 feet and she wants

See the calculations, explanations and results below.

1) The section to cover has tha shape of box with these dimensions:

length: 9.5 ft
width: 12 ft
depth: 4 inches

3) The volume of a box is calculated as:

V = length × witdth × depth

Since the depth is in inches convert to feet.

Conversion factor: 1 feet = 12 inches

⇒ depth = 4 in × 1 feet / 12 inches = 1/3 feet

Now, calculate the volume using feet:

V = 9,5 feet × 12 feet × 1/3 feet = 38 feet³

4) convert that to yard³ to compare with the calculations made by Rosilaine:

Conversion factor: 1 yard = 3 feet
⇒ 38 ft³ × (1 yard / 3 ft) ³ = (38 / 27) yard³ = 1.41 yard³

5) The error probably was that Rosailined used a wrong conversion factor.

Notice that 38 / 3 ≈ 12.7; so a likely mistake is that she did  not cube the factor and so got about 12 yard³.

6) She might order 1.5 yard³ or 2.0 yard³ depending on the seller's rates and restrictions. With that she will have enough and will not have too much left over.

R/3+2=21 solve for r
olchik [2.2K]

Answer:

r=63

Step-by-step explanation:

Rearrange the equation by subtracting what is to the right of the equal sign from both sides of the equation :

                    r/3-(21)=0             r

Simplify   —

           3

r

 — -  21  = 0

 3     2.1   Subtracting a whole from a fraction

Rewrite the whole as a fraction using  3  as the denominator :

         21     21 • 3

   21 =  ——  =  ——————

         1        3

Equivalent fraction : The fraction thus generated looks different but has the same value as the whole

Common denominator : The equivalent fraction and the other fraction involved in the calculation share the same denominator

A study of 35 golfers showed that their average score on a particular course was 92. The sample standard deviation was 5. We wan
svlad2 [7]

Answer:

t_{\alpha/2} = t_{0.05/2} = t_{0.025} = 2.0322

Step-by-step explanation:

We have a sample of size n = 35, \bar{x} = 92 and s = 5. As we want to construct a 95% confidence interval to estimate the value of the true population mean \mu, we should use the pivotal quantity given by T = \frac{\bar{X}-\mu}{S/\sqrt{n}} which comes from the t distribution with n - 1 = 35 - 1 = 34 degrees of freedom. Besides we should use the t-value t_{\alpha/2} = t_{0.05/2} = t_{0.025} = 2.0322, i.e., regarding the t-distribution with 34 degrees of freedom, we have an area of 0.025 above 2.0322 and below the probability density function. The rationale behind this is that P(-2.0322\leq T\leq 2.0322) = 0.95 because of the simmetry of the t distribution.
