Science

Science is the study of the natural world or physical universe. It is the knowledge of anything that can be verified by experiments.Science is organised into different fields of study. These fields are physics, chemistry, biology, geography, Earth science, geology, resource science, mathematics, nutrition, astronomy, biotechnology, engineering, computer and information technology.

Additional Information

Scientists

Scientists are people who study science. They use observation, experimentation and theory to collect facts and learn about a subject. They perform experiments and record their results which form the basis of science and the scientific knowledge around us.Scientists gain knowledge in the different fields of science by using specific ways and methods.

Laboratory

A laboratory or lab is a building or a part of building fitted with scientific equipment.

Scientists do experiments in labs.

Labs in schools and colleges are the classrooms where practical learning and demonstrations take place.

What are sunspots?
mel-nik [20]
Sunspots are temporary phenomena on the Sun's photosphere that appear as spots darker than the surrounding areas. They are regions of reduced surface temperature caused by concentrations of magnetic field flux that inhibit convection. Sunspots usually appear in pairs of opposite magnetic polarity.

Which statement is true? Bronchitis can result in hoarseness. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that causes thick mucus secr
Natalka [10]

Answer: Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that causes thick mucus secretions.

Explanation:

  • Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder caused by mutations in a gene that makes a protein called CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator).
  • The CFTR protein normally functions as a channel for transport of chloride ions in cells responsible for mucus production.
  • A person suffering from cystic fibrosis produces abnormal CFTR protein or no CFTR protein at all.
  • This is the reason that thick, sticky mucus is produced instead of the thin, watery kind.

If A/A ⋅ B/B is crossed with a/a ⋅ b/b and the F1 is testcrossed, what percentage of the testcross progeny will be a/a ⋅ b/b if
Alex787 [66]

Answer:

a) 25%; b) 50%; c) 45%; d) 38%

Explanation:

a) Unlinked genes

A/A B/B X a/a b/b

F1: A/a B/b

Testcross A/a B/b X a/a b/b

The homozygous recessive individual only produces ab gametes.

The F1 produces four types of gametes (each of them with a frequency of 1/4): AB, Ab, aB and ab.

25% of the progeny will be a/a b/b.

b) Completely linked genes

AB/AB X ab/ab

F1: AB/ab

Testcross AB/ab X ab/ab

The F1 produces only two types of gametes, the parentals (each of them with a frequency of 1/2): AB and ab.

50% of the progeny will be ab/ab.

c) 10 m.u. apart

AB/AB X ab/ab

F1: AB/ab

Testcross AB/ab X ab/ab

The F1 produces four types of gametes, the parentals AB and ab and the recombinants Ab and aB.

Since the genes are 10mu apart, 10% of the produced gametes will be recombinant and 90% will be parentals. Since there are two types of parental gametes, each of them has a frequency of 45%.

45% of the progeny will be ab/ab.

d) 24 m.u. apart

This is very similar to c).

Since the genes are 24mu apart, 24% of the produced gametes will be recombinant and 76% will be parentals. Since there are two types of parental gametes, each of them has a frequency of 38%.

38% of the progeny will be ab/ab.

In monkeys, being playful (P) is dominant to being paranoid (p). A heterozygous female is crossed with a homozygous dominant mal
Sergio039 [100]

Answer:

Pp or PP

Explanation:

Being heterozygous mean you have one recessive gene(a), one dominate (A). Homozygous dominant means you have only dominate(AA). if you use a Punnett square, it would look like this:

       P P

P PP PP

p Pp Pp

This shows only Pp, and PP are the possible genotypes.
