A 0.210 mol dm-3 solution of potassium hydroxide was added from a Burette to 25.0cm3 of a 0.160 mol dm-3 solution of ethanoic ac

id in a conical flask. Given that the value of the acid dissociation constant for ethanoic acid is 1.74x10-5 mol dm-3, calculate the ph at 25oC after 8cm3 of potassium hydroxide solution was added

The solution to the problem is as follows:

This is mostly stoichiometry with a little bit of substitution into the acid dissociation equation.

You need intial moles of acid and salt = 0.025 x 0.16 = 0.004 mol
You need moles HA after 8ml of 0.21 M KOH added = 0.004 - (0.008 x 0.21) = 0.00232 mol HA

moles of salt = moles of acid reacted = (0.008 x 0.21) = 0.00168 mol A-

Now work out concentrations based on total volume = 0.025 + 0.008 = 0.033 dm3

[HA] = 0.00232/0.033 = 0.0703 M

[A-] = 0.00168/0.033 = 0.0509 M

ka = [H+][A-]/[HA]

1.74 x 10-5 = [H+] * 0.0509/0.0703

[H+] = 2.4 x 10-5

pH = 4.62

<span>For the 40 ml addition there is no acid left over, so it's just calculated from excess base.

kilograms represented by the mass defect for thorium -234=3.09x 10-27 kg what is the nuclear binding energy for thorium -234
Dafna1 [17]

Mass defect and binding energy are related as

ΔE = Δmc^2

Where

ΔE = binding energy

Δm = mass defect

c = speed of light

given

mass defect = 3.09x 10-27 kg

We know that speed of light = 3 X 10^8 m /s

ΔE = 3.09x 10-27 kg  (3 X 10^8 m /s)^2 = 2.781 X 10^-10 J / Kg

Explain why the pbcl2 dissolved when water was added
lara [203]

PbCl2 would not dissolve because it is insoluble based on the solubility rules for substances that will dissolve in water. This compound would instead form a solid precipitate at the bottom of the container.

The Red Sea is widening at a rate of 1.25 centimeters per year. How many years will it take to widen another 812.5 centimeters?
nikklg [1K]

The correct answer is - B) 650.

The Red Sea is a sea that grows in size because it is widening all the time. The rate of the widening is 1.25 centimeters per year, so it is not something that can be easily seen during a normal human lifespan, but over a longer period of time it will have a much different shape, size, and influence in the region. It is located between the African and the Arabian tectonic plates as an elongated thin sea with a northwest-southeast direction.

The widening of the Red Sea is due to the movement of the tectonic plates. Africa is moving towards northwest, and that makes it slowly distance itself from the Arabian plate, thus opening more space for the Red Sea.

In order for the Red Sea to widen another 812.5 centimeters, will be required 650 years, and we can come to the result by simple dividing the required number of the width with the annual widening.

812.5 / 1.25 = 650.
