<h2>Rate of the boat in still water is 47 km/hr and rate of the current is 14 km/hr</h2>

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Given that,

A motorboat travels 165 Kilometers in 5 hours going up stream.

It travels 305 kilometers going downstream in the same amount of time

Therefore,

Upstream distance = 165 km

Upstream time = 5 hours

<h3><u>Find upstream speed:</u></h3>

speed = \frac{distance}{time}\\\\speed = \frac{165}{5}\\\\speed = 33

Thus upstream speed is 33 km per hour

Downstream distance = 305 km

Downstream time = 5 hours

<h3><u>Find downstream speed:</u></h3>

speed = \frac{305}{5}\\\\speed = 61

Thus downstream speed is 61 km per hour

<em><u>If the speed of a boat in still water is u km/hr and the speed of the stream is v km/hr, then </u></em>

Speed downstream = u + v km/hr

Speed upstream = u - v km/hr

Therefore,

u + v = 61 ---- eqn 1

u - v = 33 ----- eqn 2

<em><u>Add eqn 1 and eqn 2</u></em>

u + v + u - v = 61 + 33

2u = 94

u = 47

<em><u>Substitute u = 47 in eqn 1</u></em>

47 + v = 61

v = 61 - 47

v = 14

Thus rate of the boat in still water is 47 km/hr and rate of the current is 14 km/hr

It is false that deserts advance linearly, in easily mappable patterns.
Deserts don't really have a pattern when they are advancing - there are so many ways they can do this.

Solve the system of equations algebraically. 4x-3y=8 5x-4y=5
baherus [9]

Answer:

x= 17 and y=20

Step-by-step explanation:

4x- 3y= 8-------1

5x-4y= 5-------2

Subtracting 2 from 1

5x-4y= 5

-4x+3y=-8

x-y=-3----------3

From 3 we have x= y-3-------4

Putting 4 in 1

4(y-3) -3y= 8

4y - 12 -3y= 8

y= 8+12

y=20------------5

Putting 5 in 2

5x - 4(20)= 5

5x=5+80

5x= 85

x= 17------6

Veronika [31]
Got a calculator? all you do for #1 and #2 is multiply the two numbers and that is the value for x.
These problems are cross multiplication.
For the next two:
.25x = 6
divide both sides by .25
x  = 24
NEXT ONE:
.49x = 12
divide both sides by .49
x = 24.48
