Answer:

The answer is explained below.

Explanation:

Antigone is a play written by Sophocles, who is one of the three ancient Greek tragedians. Even though it is the last of three Theban plays, it is said that Sophocles had written it before he wrote the first two. Creon is the new Tebas ruler, after Eteocles and Polynices death.

In the excerpt, we can see how Creon emphasizes the importance of human civil law when he says "Before my presence here the very man/ who carried out this lawless burial,/ Death for your punishment shall not be suffice/ Hanged on a cross, alive yet first shall make/ Confession of this outrage. This will teach you/ What practices are like to serve your turn." By these words, it is understood that the worst punishment is valid against those who had the courage to break the law, which is almost sacred.

Which sentence in this excerpt from "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman shows the use of verbal irony?
aleksklad [387]
The correct answer is He is very careful and loving, and hardly lets me stir without special direction.

The final part of the sentence points out that he's not actually careful and loving but rather quite bothersome and nags all the time. This is what verbal irony is actually, meaning the opposite of what is said.
