The evolution of modern species is studied through the fossils found in various parts of the world.
The <em>Homo erectus </em>is the first hominin species which possessed human-like characteristics like bipedalism and they appeared about 2 mya. The first evidence of <em>Homo sapiens</em> fossil belonged to about 1,60000 years ago.
In between them, scientists found some fossils which possess characteristics of both Homo erectus and Homo sapiens, therefore, these fossils were called archaic Homo sapiens. These fossils dated about 300000 years ago.
