The numbers are 50 and -15.

Step by step:

Let X + Y = 35 (i)
and X - Y = 65 (ii)
Find X, Y = ... ?

From (i),
X + Y = 35
substract Y from both sides,
X + Y - Y = 35 - Y
X = 35 - Y (iii)

substitute (iii) into (ii),
X - Y = 65
(35 - Y) - Y = 65
35 - 2Y = 65
substract 35 from both sides,
35 - 35 - 2Y = 65 - 35
-2Y = 30
divide -2 from both sides,
-2Y/-2 = 30/-2
Y = -15

substitute Y=-15 into (iii),
X = 35 - Y = 35 - (-15) = 35 + 15 = 50

So, X = 50 and Y = -15.

Can someone explain to me how to solve this please
pashok25 [27]
The statement "y varies directly as x," means that when x increases, y increases by the same factor. In other words, y and x always have the same ratio: y/x =K

it can be written as ---> y=kx

then put in the values to get a common ratio
k= y/x
k1= 11/7
k2= 13/8

therefore, there's no common ratio in the given table

The length and width of a rectangle are consecutive integers. The perimeter of the
Hunter-Best [27]

The length of the rectangle is 9 feet and the width of the rectangle is 10 feet.

What is the Perimeter of a Rectangle?

The sum of a rectangle's boundary lengths on all sides is known as its perimeter. A rectangle's perimeter is a linear measurement that can be expressed in meters, feet, inches, or yards. Let's first comprehend the two fundamental characteristics of a rectangle.

 • A rectangle has four 90° angles.
 • The lengths of a rectangle's diagonals are equal.

Let the length of the rectangle be x feet

Then, the width of the rectangle will be x+1feet

We know that the perimeter of a rectangle is given by

P= 2(l+w)

Here

P= perimeter of a rectangle

l=length of the rectangle

w= width of the rectangle

Put l=x, w= x+1 and P= 38 in the perimeter formula

38 = 2(x+x+1)

Divide both sides by 2

19= x+x+1

19= 2x+1

Subtract 1 from both sides

18=2x

Divide both sides by 2

x=9 feet

This is the length of the rectangle.

Now, the width x+1 of the rectangle will be

9+1 = 10 feet
