They are both metals

Explanation:

Sodium and Potassium cannot form ionic compounds because they are both metals.

Metals do not form ionic bonds between themselves.

To form an ionic bond;

  • Two atoms combines together in which one of them transfers its valence electrons to the other.
  • The atoms must have a large electronegativity difference between them.
  • Formation of ions which causes electrostatic attraction.
  • The ions formed are oppositely charged so that attraction is possible.

The description above is only satisfied by metals and non-metals.

A calorimeter is a container that is insulated from the outside, so a negligible amount of energy enters or leaves the container
Len [333]

Answer:

This is a heat balance question with negligible heat losses  to the surroundings.

Sum of heat losses = Sum of the heat gains

We are required to find the final temperature of the calorimeter system T1?

we were given

C = specific heat capacities of Copper c, Water w, Ice i and Lead l

m = masses as mc = 0.1kg, mw = 0.16kg, mi=0.018kg, ml=0.75kg,

T = Temperature of the components, Lead Tl= 225C and at ambient pressure, Temp. To of the water, ice and copper = 25C

Since, at thermal equilibrium after adding the Lead, the lead temperature Tl decreases while copper, water and ice temp decrease, so we have respective heat losses 'q' as,

qc + qw + qi + ql =0

which means that

(mc x Cc x ΔTC) + (mw x Cw x ΔTC) + (mi x Ci x ΔTC) + (ml x Cl x ΔTC) = 0

(0.1x390x (T1 - 25)) + (0.16x4190x (T1 - 25)) + (0.018x4190x (T1 - 0)) + (0.750x130x (T1 - 225)) = 0

882.32T1 - 41558 = 0

T1 = 47.1K

Hence, the final temperature of the calorimeter system is 47.1K

A thin film of oil of thickness t is floating on water. The oil has index of refraction no = 1.4. There is air above the oil. Wh
vesna_86 [32]

Answer:t=0.1205

Explanation:

Given

Refractive index of oil\left ( \mu \right )=1.4

Wavelength of red light =675 mm

Condition for constructive interference is

2\mu _{oil}t=\frac{m\lambda }{2}

t=\frac{m\lambda }{4\mu _{oil}}

For m= 1 i.e. for minimum thickness

t=\frac{1\times 675\times 10^{-9}}{4\times 1.4}

t=0.1205 \mu m

The speed of light in air is 3.0 x 10^8 m/s. The speed of light in particular glass is 2.3 x 10^8 m/s. Use the information to de
olga_2 [115]

Answer:

33.61°

Explanation:

Refractive index is equal to velocity of the light 'c' in empty space divided by the velocity 'v' in the substance.

Or ,

n = c/v.

v is the velocity in the medium  (2.3 × 10⁸ m/s)

c is the speed of light in air = 3.0 × 10⁸ m/s

So,

n = 3.0 × 10⁸ /  2.3 × 10⁸

n = 1.31

Using Snell's law as:

n_i\times {sin\theta_i}={n_r}\times{sin\theta_r}

Where,

{\theta_i}  is the angle of incidence  ( 25.0° )

{\theta_r} is the angle of refraction  ( ? )

{n_r} is the refractive index of the refraction medium  (air, n=1)

{n_i} is the refractive index of the incidence medium (glass, n=1.31)

Hence,

1.31\times {sin25.0^0}={1}\times{sin\theta_r}

Angle of refraction = sin^{-1}0.5536 = 33.61°

Just after a motorcycle rides off the end of a ramp and launches into the air, its engine is turning counterclockwise at 8325 re
alexgriva [62]

Answer:

\frac{Ie}{lm} = 1.10*10^{-3}

Explanation:

GIVEN DATA:

Engine operating speed nf = 8325 rev/min

engine angular speed ni= 12125 rev/min

motorcycle angular speed N_m= - 4.2 rev/min

ratio of moment of inertia of engine to motorcycle is given as

\frac{Ie}{lm} = \frac{-N}{(nf-ni)}

\frac{Ie}{lm} = \frac{-(-4.2)}{(12125 - (8325))}

\frac{Ie}{lm} = 1.10*10^{-3}
