The horizontal asymptote of a rational function tells us the limiting value of that function as it approaches infinity.

For a rational function to have a horizontal asymptote of
\frac{2}{9}
then,the highest degree of x in the numerator must be equal to the highest degree of x in the denominator.

The second condition is that,
the coefficient of the highest degree in the numerator and the coefficient of the highest degree in the denominator should be in the ratio 2:9.

Example are given in the graph above.

Here are some other examples,

y = \frac{2x - 1}{9x + 2}

y = \frac{1 - 6 {x}^{3} }{5x - 27 {x}^{3} }

The answer to your question to give an example of a rational function that has a horizontal asymptote of y = 2/9 is this one example: f (x) = 2x^2 + 4x + 1  / 9x^2 + x + 1. Thank you for posting your question. I hope this answer helped you. Let me know if you need more help.

If -2x-y=-4 and x+2y=5, notice that

(-2x-y)+2(x+2y)=-4+2\cdot5\implies3y=6\implies y=2

Then

x+2\cdot2=5\implies x=1

A tourist first walked 17 km with a speed of v km/h. Then he hiked 12km with a speed that was 2km/hour less than his original sp
katrin2010 [14]
The time it takes for an object/person to cover a certain distance is calculated by dividing the distance by the speed.

a. For the first question, the equation would become,

     t = 17/v + 12/(v - 2)

b. To answer, this we simply have to substitute 5 to the v of the first equation,

    t = 17/5 + 12/(5 - 2)

    t = 7.4 hours

<em>Answer: 7.4 hours</em>
