Ivan is looking at a cross section of a stem taken from a vascular plant. He sees two different types of vascular tissue: the xy

lem, which is closer to the center of the stem, and the phloem, located around the xylem, closer to the outside of the stem. How do these two structures work together in a living plant?

Answer:

The xylem is a vascular tissue responsible for the transportation of water from the root to other parts of the plant. While the phloem is responsible for the transportation of soluble organic nutrients gotten from photosynthesis, to other parts of the plant.

Explanation:

The xylem is a hollow tube made up of dead empty cells that continues throughout the whole length of the trunk of a plant. The cohesive (i.e water attracts water) and adhesive (i.e water attracts xylem) nature of water makes it possible for water to move from the root which is the major source of water transported, up to the topmost leaf of the plant in a process called capillarity. An upward pull, which keeps the upstream of water continuous is generated during transpiration (i.e the loss of water from the plant).

The phloem, which is also hollow in nature, transports glucose from photosynthetic regions of the plant, majorly the leaf, to other parts of the plant. This process is called translocation.

Which statement would be used in an argument against the use of human embryonic stem cells for therapy?
Marizza181 [45]

The statement 'obtaining embryonic stem cells for use in therapy requires the destruction of embryos' would be used in an argument against the use of human embryonic stem cells for therapy. It is a type of stem cell therapy.

What are embryonic stem cells?

The embryonic stem cells are cells obtained from embryos that have the property to divide and specialize into different tissues.

The embryonic stem cells can be differentiated in the laboratory for the development of specific cell lineages.

The therapy using embryonic stem cells involves the use of these types of cells and the destruction of an embryo.

discuss the genetic diagram to show a cross between a man heterozygous for brown eyes (Bb) and a woman with blue eyes (bb)
grigory [225]
You should use a Punnett Square for this question
The Punnett square predicts the offspring of two parents (two alleles). In this case you have brown eyes (Bb) and blue eyes (bb)
In the four boxes you should have Bb, Bb, bb and bb (50% chance of offspring with blue eyes and 50% chance of offspring with brown eyes).
The genotypes ratio will be 2Bb:2bb
And the phenotypic ratio will be 2 Brown : 2 Blue
