The lottery, despite what people might think, is not that much of a benefit as people think. In fact, people who have won the lottery have stated that the money did not make them any happier, but it created more problems, instead. Maybe the lottery has a better chance of providing a truly better life to an entire family than if they only target single people to pay out the entire amount to.
This is a question that may be different for everyone.
So, let's say you live in New York City in 1910. What are some of the pros and cons of living in a city compared to the country?
Pros:
-Access to running water
-Closer to doctors and hospitals (which weren't very helpful back then, anyways, but that's a whole different thing)
-More jobs
-More jobs that weren't physically involved
-Near latest technology
-More food
-More luxuries
Cons:
-Disease spreads faster in close conditions
-Losing ability over millenia of farming, and becoming more modern
-Being poor is relatively common
Now, think about modern-day NYC. Why would you want to live there instead of out in the country?
Now, imagine yourself as an early human. There are more opportunities, etc. Why would you want to live in a city vs. the country?
Comparing time periods is a helpful exercise when looking at history, so I helped the NYC example helped with your perspective :)
It's the conflict perspective theory
Before the states became states they were called colonies. The reason why they were called colonies was because that they were all colonies of Great Britain. They began being called states in July 1776.
