Answer:

Probability of the teacher or other staff is 0.7143

Step-by-step explanation:

pr(teacher or other staff) = pr(teacher) + pr(other staff) - pr(teacher and other staff)

Total number of tickets = 1050

Number of tickets sold to teachers = 515

Number of tickets sold to other staff = 235

pr(teacher) = \frac{515}{1050}

                 = 103 \frac{2}{10}

                 = 0.4905

pr(other staff) = \frac{235}{1050}

                    = 47 \frac{2}{10}

                  = 0.2238

Since the picking of the wining ticket is mutually exclusive, then;

pr(teacher and other staff) = 0

Thus,

pr(teacher or other staff) = 0.4905 + 0.2238 - 0

                                         = 0.7143

Inter portal range of 4th period box plot is higher than the 2nd period of box plot. The 4th period class should get the reward.

<h3>What is box plot?</h3>

Box plot is the way of representation of data which gives the graphical image of the data set to understand better.

The minimum and the maximum values in the box plot is plotted at the end points.

Given information-

Box plot labeled 2nd period with min at 77, Q1 at 78, median at 89, Q3 at 92, max at 100.

Box plot labeled 4th period with min at 72, Q1 at 82.5, median at 89, Q3 at 96, max at 97. 5.

From the box plot we can see the points as,

  • The maximum score of the 2nd period class is 77 and the 4th period class is 72, but this does not show the better performance of the class.
  • The maximum score of the 2nd period class is 100 and the 4th period class is 97.5, but this does not show the better performance of the class.
  • Median for both the class is same which is 89.
  • The inter portal range of the box plot of 4th period is higher than the 2nd period box plot. Thus 4th period class performed better.

Hence, the 4th period class should get the reward. Though the medians are the same, the first and third quadrilles are higher, so the students did better on average than in the 2nd period class.
