The chemical L-dopa which is known chemically as l-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine or levadopa is a type of amino acid that is part of the biology of living things.

The Chemical Formula is C9H11NO4.

L-dopa is used to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease which is caused by loss of dopamine neurons.

However, this same l-dopa is may increase schizophrenia symptoms, which could rationally mean that excessive dopamine could lead to schizophrenic symptoms.
