This is solved by setting up two equations and then using one to answer the other.
The first step (use what is given to set up the two separate equations)
We are looking for two numbers, let us call them X and Y.
We are told that X + Y = 59
We are also told that (9 more than) 9+ (4times the smaller number) 4Y is the bigger number X
Then we combine that into 9+4Y=X
so we now have two separate equations and we can use one to solve the other. Everywhere we have X in the first equation, we will fill in with the second equation
(9+4Y) +Y = 59    [then combine like terms]
9+5Y=59 [subtract 9 from both sides]
5Y=50 [divide both sides by 5 to isolate the Y]
Y=10 [now plug this into either equation to solve for X]
9+4(10)=X
9+40=X
49=X and 10=Y

Find the area of a triangle whose sides are 5 m, 6 m and 9m,( use root 2 =-1.41 m)
dlinn [17]

The area of the triangle is 14.1 square meters

How to determine the triangle area?

The side lengths are given as:

5m, 6m and 9m

Calculate the semi-perimeter (s) using

s = (5 + 6 + 9)/2

Evaluate

s = 10

The area is then calculated as:

Area = \sqrt{s(s -a)(s-b)(s-c)

This gives

Area = \sqrt{10 * (10 -5)(10-6)(10-9)

Evaluate the products

Area = \sqrt{200

Evaluate the exponent

Area = 14.1

Hence, the area of the triangle is 14.1 square meters

Percy works two part-time jobs to help pay for college classes. On Monday, he works 3 hours at the library and 2 hours at the co
laila [671]
For the answer to the two questions above,
3x + 2y = 36.50 (I)
2x + 5y = 50 (II)
Eliminating x from the two equations by subtraction:
first we multiply equation I by 2 and equation II by 3
6x + 4y = 73
6x + 15y = 150
Subtracting the two,
-11y = -77
y = 7
He earns $7 at the coffee cart
Substituting y into equation I,
3x + 14 = 36.5
x = $7.50

So we can conclude that, he earns a greater wage of $7.50 at the library,
