Brinkmanship is a strategy where one does anything for the opponent to stop the fight against them. This strategy was used by the United States to expand its Air Force and builds its nuclear weapons.

Further Explanation:

Brinkmanship was a kind of tactic used at the time of the cold war because neither the U.S.A. nor the USSR could bear the loss of mutually assured destruction. Nuclear War acted as a nuclear deterrence which can pose damage to both the receiving end. It degraded the relationship between the USA and the USSR.

Both the USA and the Soviet Union used fear tactics to counter their opponents. Both the parties pushed each other into a dangerous situation. They want backing down of any party in international politics. They escalated the threat of Nuclear War to an unimaginable situation. The result is that both parties responded with a more powerful force. The aim of the tactic is not to give yield to the other. If none of the parties yielded anything the result would be worse for both.  Thus brinkmanship is very risky. The only method to avoid is to evolve at a consensus and make a compromise. Bertrand Russell calls this tactic as a chicken game.

Answer:

The baby became habituated to the pattern of the dots in the shape of a square

Explanation:

Habituation is the learning process by which an organism's initial response to a stimulus decreases after the organism repeatedly is exposed to the stimulus.

Here, the baby was interested to the pattern of the dots in the shape of a square but after the baby was repeatedly subjected to it the baby became habituated to them and lost interest. Later a different pattern got the baby interested again.

Hence, the baby became habituated to the pattern of the dots in the shape of a square.
