Answer:

(a) The probability is 0.4696

(b) The probability is 0.5304

(c) The probability is 0.0929

Step-by-step explanation:

The total number of ways in which we can select k elements from a group n elements is calculate as:

nCx=\frac{n!}{x!(n-x)!}

So, the number of ways in which we can select four students from a group of 19 students is:

19C4=\frac{19!}{4!(19-4)!}=3,876

On the other hand, the number of ways in which we can select four students with no math majors is:

(16C4)*(3C0)=(\frac{16!}{4!(16-4)!})*(\frac{3!}{0!(3-0)!})=1820

Because, we are going to select 4 students form the 16 students that aren't math majors and select 0 students from the 3 students that are majors.

At the same way, the number of ways in which we can select four students with one, two and three math majors are 1680, 360 and 16 respectively, and they are calculated as:

(16C3)*(3C1)=(\frac{16!}{3!(16-3)!})*(\frac{3!}{1!(3-1)!})=1680

(16C2)*(3C2)=(\frac{16!}{2!(16-2)!})*(\frac{3!}{2!(3-1)!})=360

(16C1)*(3C3)=(\frac{16!}{1!(16-1)!})*(\frac{3!}{3!(3-3)!})=16

Then, the probability that the group has no math majors is:

P=\frac{1820}{3876} =0.4696

The probability that the group has at least one math major is:

P=\frac{1680+360+16}{3876} =0.5304

The probability that the group has exactly two math majors is:

P=\frac{360}{3876} =0.0929

Which statement is true about the equations –3x + 4y = 12 and x – y = 1?
Firlakuza [10]
-3x + 4y = 12
x - y = 1....x = y + 1

-3(y + 1) + 4y = 12
-3y - 3 + 4y = 12
-3y + 4y = 12 + 3
y = 15

x - y = 1
x - 15 = 1
x = 1 + 15
x = 16

Jalil and Victoria are each asked to solve the equation ax – c = bx + d for x. Jalil says it is not possible to isolate x becaus
Iteru [2.4K]
<span>solve the equation ax – c = bx + d for x:

1) Group the x terms together on the left:     ax - bx - c = d

2) Group the constant terms together:          ax - bx = c + d

3) factor out x:                                             x(a - b) = c + d

4) Divide both sides of the equation by (a - b) to obtain a formula for x:
                                                       c+d
</span>           x(a - b) = c + d   =>    x = ---------
                                                       a-b

This shows that the given equation CAN be solved for x, but there is a restriction:  a must NOT equal b, because if a-b = 0, we'd have division by zero (which is not defined).

Where is Victoria's solution?  Please share it if you want to discuss this problem further.  Thank you.

Tyler needs at least $205 for a new video game system. He has already saves $30. He earns $7 an hour at his job. Write and solve
azamat
Amount needed=earned+already have
205=earned+30
earned=7 times number of hours=7h

205≤7h+30
we used the less than or equal to because he needs at least 205, means 205 or greater must be earned

205≤7h+30
minus 30 both sides
175≤7h
divide both sides by 7
25≤h
