A tank is full of oil weighing 30 lb/ft3. The tank is a right rectangular prism with a width of 2 feet, a depth of 2 feet, and a

height of 3 feet. Find the work required to pump the water to a height of 2 feet above the top of the tank

Answer:

the work will be W= 17373.96 lb*ft²/s²

Step-by-step explanation:

Neglecting the frictional losses in the pipe and the pump efficiency, then assuming a reversible process the work W will be

W= ∫pdV

from an energy balance (see note below), and assuming constant density of the oil, the pressures at pump output and pump input will be

P final = p₀ + ρ*g*h = p₀ + ρ*g*h + 1/2ρ*v²

P initial =  p₀ + 1/2ρ*v²

where

p₀= pressure at the surface

ρ= density

g= gravity

h= height of the oil level

the volume of pumped oil will be

V= A*h

dV=A*dh

then the pressure the pump has to work against is:

p= Pfinal- Pinitial = ρ*g*h

therefore

W=∫pdV = A∫ρ*g*h*dh = A*ρ*g*H²/2 = ρ*g*V*H/2

replacing values

V= 2 ft* 2 ft * 3 ft = 12 ft³

W= ρ*g*V*H/2= 30 lb/ft³* 32.174 ft/s²* 12 ft³ * 3 ft/2 = 17373.96 lb*ft²/s²

W= 17373.96 lb*ft²/s²

Note

- from mass conservation at the bottom of the tank and pump output

Apipe*vpipe = Apump*vpump

assuming that the discharge pipe has the same pipe diameter then Apump= Apipe → vpipe= vpump=v

- the final work is the average of the work for a completely charged tank and with almost any oil (H=0)  ( assuming no suction of air/vapor with low oil levels)

Suppose that you wanted to predict the price of a house based on where the house was located (northeast, northwest, southeast, o
morpeh [17]

Answer: b. 3

Step-by-step explanation:

We know that , the indicator variable is a dummy variable in regression analysis which is used to denote either presence ( by 1 ) or absence ( by 0 ) of a nominal variable that can be responsible for the change in output.

Number of indicator variables = (all levels in the original variable)-1

Here , the given categories as per the location are northeast, northwest, southeast, or southwest.

i.e. all levels in the original variable = 4

Then, the umber of indicator variables we need = 4-1 =3

Hence, we need 3 indicator variables.

Thus , the correct answer is b. 3.

Which expression represents the number 2i4−5i3+3i2+−81‾‾‾‾√ rewritten in a+bi form?
vichka [17]

Answer:

The expression -1+14i represents  the number 2i^4-5i^3+3i^2+\sqrt{-81} rewritten in a+bi form.

Step-by-step explanation:

The value of i is i=\sqrt{-1}[tex] or [tex]i^{2}=-1[\tex].Now [tex]i^{4} in term of i^{2}[\tex] can be written as, [tex]i^{4}=i^{2}\times i^{2}

Substituting the value,

i^{4}=\left(-1\right)\times \left(-1\right)

Product of two negative numbers is always positive.

\therefore i^{4}=1

Now i^{3} in term of i^{2}[\tex] can be written as, [tex]i^{3}=i^{2}\times i

Substituting the value,

i^{3}=\left(-1\right)\times i

Product of one negative  and one positive numbers is always negative.

\therefore i^{3}=-i

Now \sqrt{-81} can be written as follows,

\sqrt{-81}=\sqrt{\left(81\right)\times\left(-1\right)}

Applying radical multiplication rule,

\sqrt{ab}={\sqrt{a}}\sqrt{b}

\sqrt{\left(81\right)\times\left(-1\right)}={\sqrt{81}}\sqrt{-1}

Now, \sqrt{\left(81\right)=9 and \sqrt{-1}}=i

\therefore \sqrt{\left(81\right)\times\left(-1\right)}=9i

Now substituting the above values in given expression,

2i^4-5i^3+3i^2+\sqrt{-81}=2\left(1\right)-5\left(-i\right)+3\left(-1\right)+9i

Simplifying,

2+5i-3+9i

Collecting similar terms,

2-3+5i+9i

Combining similar terms,

-1+14i

The above expression is in the form of a+bi which is the required expression.

Hence, option number 4 is correct.
