Sure.

In order to go from the 17th floor of the building down to
11 levels underground, you have to go down 28 levels.

In order to go from 17 steps above zero down to 11 steps
below zero, you have to go down 28 steps.

Do you need another example ?

The temperature on August 1 was 90 degrees.
The temperature on February 1 was -15 degrees.
How far did the temperature swing altogether in 6 months ?

To go from 90 steps above ground down to 15 steps underground,
you have to walk down  (90 + 15) = 105 steps .

Last month Maria hiked the 5-mile mountain trail a number of times and she hiked the 10-mile canal trail several times. Let x re
professor190 [17]
Number of times she climbed 5-mile mountain trail = x
Number of times she climbed 10-mile trail = y
total distance of the 5-mile mountain trail will be = 5*x =5x
total distance of the 10-mile mountain trail will be  = 10*y = 10y
equation  that can be used to find the number of times she hiked each trail is therefore
5x + 10y = 90

Which triangle defined by three points on the coordinate plane is congruent with the triangle illustrated, and why?
HACTEHA [7]
The triangle defined by three points on the coordinate plane is congruent with the triangle illustrated:

C) (4,2); (8,2); (4,8) because the corresponding pairs of sides and corresponding pairs of angles are congruent.

If we plot these points we can observe that they are congruent, we should also solve for the distance of each point between each other to conclude their congruency.
