- Females are not allowed to go to college (which more commonly found in Muslim dominated area)
- Fireworks are shot out into the ocean to celebrate new year's eve (which commonly found in westernized area)

I think the answer is the settlers that was in Europe but I'm not sure.
Because in both Chinese and Taiwan culture their beliefs of honor and respect are important to them.
Example: Respect for elders and loyalty toward the family are considered vital or mandatory.
