The way that cheap calculators do it is with Newton's approximation.

x=√n

x^2=n

x^2-n=0

Newton's approximation is:

x-f(x)/(dy/dx)

x-(x^2-n)/(2x) which if you include the improved approximation

(2x^2-x^2+n)/(2x)

x↔(x^2+n)/(2x)

It converges very quickly to the exact answer (if there is one) with relatively few iterations...

For example:  √5 ?  take an initial guess of 2 and you get:

(x^2+5)/(2x)

2, 2.25, 2.2361, 2.2360, 2.236067977499

16 increased by twice a number is -24 what is the solution?
Lynna [10]

Let x = the number.

"increased by" tells you we are adding.

"twice a number" tells you 2 times a number.

16 + 2x = - 24

Subtract 16 from both sides so that we have the variable on one sides and the constants on the other.

2x = - 24 - 16

2x = - 40

Divide by 2 to isolate the variable.

x = - 40/2 = - 20

Your solution is - 20.

To check your answer, plug in.

16 + 2(-20) = - 24

16 - 40 = - 24

- 24 = - 24

How many sides does a regular polygon have if each exterior angle has a measure of 15 degrees? (Show work!!)
ad-work [718]
The answer is 24 sides
because the total amount of the exterior angles of a polygon is 360.
so if each exterior angle has a measure of 15:
360 \div 15 = 24

Answer:

X, process, y

-2, 3(-2), -6

-1, 3(-1), -3

0, 3(0), 0

1, 3(1), 3

2, 3(2), 6

X = -2, -1, 0, 1, 2,

Y = -6, -3, 0, -3, -6

Step-by-step explanation:

Coordinates for the graph: (-2,-6), (-1,-3), (0,0), (1,3), (2,6)

Graph is the image I added onto this.

Solving for Y below:

3(-2)= -6

3(-1)= -3

3(0)= 0

3(1)= 3

3(2)= 6

Hope this helps.

MrRissso [65]

Answer:

p=-1

Step-by-step explanation:
